66 years of professional creativity

The Puppet Theater marked 66 years of work and creativity on June 23rd. We have built a name recognized for good performances, a diverse repertoire, great acting and artistic names, and their outstanding achievements. We have built a name that both our city and our country can be proud of.

We celebrate this birthday and share the joy of longevity and success with our audience, fellow citizens, colleagues, and collaborators, with whom and with whose help we have grown, developed, and acquired the experience, knowledge, and skills that we use today.

And we all have reasons to celebrate together. Our employees—because the years give us value. Our audience also has a reason to celebrate, as for years we have been discovering life’s truths together and making the world a better place to live in. Our fellow citizens—because the years of our work and success inspire trust. Our colleagues and collaborators also have a reason to celebrate because our mission is shared: to build and spread professional puppet theater knowledge, and to enhance and enrich both national and global puppet art and culture.

By celebrating the 66th birthday, we celebrate the joy of theatrical play for our young audiences.

Theater today

The Puppet Theater plays an important role in the aesthetic and moral education of young generations. Our performances, through their stage effects, develop children’s imagination, stimulate curiosity, pose questions, and through stage illusions provide answers to all the moral, ethical, and aesthetic dilemmas that children and youth face in everyday life.

We strive to ensure the accessibility of theater art to all children, which is why we work closely with kindergartens and schools. For all vulnerable groups, we perform and organize humanitarian shows and events, adding a special dimension to the work of our theater.

The core concept of our theater is based on nurturing tradition and cultural heritage, through which we teach children about their identity and the heritage they come from, as well as the diversity of themes and motifs, helping them understand that they are citizens of the world.

The Puppet Theater Niš is the only professional children’s theater in Niš and the only professional puppet theater. Our repertoire includes about thirty performances across all genres known to puppet art. Our audience consists of children and youth, for whom we present 25-30 performances per month: on weekdays in the mornings and afternoons for organized visits from schools and kindergartens, and on Thursdays at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 11:30 AM for individual visits.
