The Puppet Theatre Nis announces a call for participation in the competition programme of the Second International Festival of Theatre for Children and Youth The Smile of Nis, which will be held from 19 to 24 October 2026.
All professional theatres that cultivate theatrical creation for children and youth are invited to submit their applications by sending an e-mail to marketing_pozlutaka@medianis.net no later than 31 May 2026.
Application Procedure
In addition to the completed application form, all applicants for the official competition programme are required to submit the following:
- A completed application form;
- A rooming list;
- A full recording of the performance. The recording may be sent via the internet as a viewing link or through one of the large-file transfer services (WeTransfer, Filemail, etc.);
- Five (5) photographs of the performance (13 × 18 cm, 300 dpi, quality 3 / approximately 1500 to 2100 pixels);
- A list of ensemble members and a rooming list;
- The theatre’s logo.
Each theatre is allowed to enlist only one performance for submission, and which was also premiered within the past two years.
Selection
The principal criterion for the selection of performances is their artistic quality. The decision regarding the quality of the performances applying for the official selection is made by the Festival’s selector.
Awards
The international expert jury will present the following awards:
- The Smile of Nis Grand Prix for Best Performance;
- The Smile of Nis Award for Best Direction;
- The Smile of Nis Award for Best Text;
- The Smile of Nis Award for Best Scenography or overall stage design of the performance;
- The Smile of Nis Award for Best Costume;
- The Smile of Nis Award for Best Original Music;
- Three equal instances of The Smile of Nis Award for acting;
- The Smile of Nis Special Award for some performance segments not covered by other awards;
The children’s jury will present:
- Award for Best Performance.
The awards are not monetary.
Terms of Participation
Each theatre shall cover the costs of travel to and from Nis, as well as the insurance of its travellers and equipment, while the Festival organiser shall cover the costs of accommodation, meals, technical support, and accreditations for all festival events.
