Mount Vilinje is tormented by a dragon whose reign of fear has driven the villagers into isolation. According to a prophecy, the village will one day be saved by Zduhać, a child born on the very day the prophecy was foretold. To prevent it from coming true, the dragon tries to destroy the new-born. However, eighteen years later, the boy is revealed to have survived. Unaware that he is the prophesied Zduhać, young Stojan returns to the village and falls in love with Mara, the daughter of the village elder – the very man who has been enforcing the dragon’s will. In the end, Zduhać and the dragon face each other in a final confrontation, and the fate of the village hangs in the balance.
Mount Vilinje is a story that highlights the importance of resistance and rebellion in the pursuit of freedom. At the same time, it reminds us that a hero lives within each of us. We should not wait for someone else to save us; if we find the courage and resolve to stand up to tyranny and oppression, we can become the heroes of our own story.
