Jelena Djordjevic

Born on May 23, 1978, in Užice. Graduated in 2006 in Professor Rumen Rachev’s class, specializing in Puppet Theater Acting at the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts “Krsto Sarafov” in Sofia. In 2013, she also enrolled in a master’s program in Educational and Therapeutic Theater at the same institution.

Her professional career began with the Niš Puppet Theater and the play “Beauty and the Beast,” directed by Zoran Lozančić (2002). She has acted in more than fifty productions, including: “Theatrical Exhibition,” “Sylvester’s Treasure,” “Carlson and Malisa,” and “Unfulfilled Loves” in Sofia; “Enchanted Toys” and “Three Chinese Tales” in Kragujevac; “Snow White and Rose Red,” “The Gluttonous Mouse,” and “Clown Storytellers” in Sliven; “Beauty and the Beast” (remake), “New Year’s Puzzle,” and “Pinocchio” in Niš, among many others.

She has also directed several productions: “Ole, Ole, Close Your Eyes” and “Carlson and Malisa” (Jelena Đorđević and Zdrava Kamenova), “Who Stole the Letters,” “New Year’s Mess,” “New Year’s Puzzle,” and “Goldilocks.”

In Sofia, she acted in the short film “Dream,” directed by Milko Yovchev, and in the series “Stolichani v poveche” and “Komicite,” Dream Team Production. She is the author and host of the show “Soul of the Balkans” on Bravo Radio in Varna.

She is featured in the anthology of puppetry in the book by Professor Radoslav Lazić, “Puppeteers on Puppetry,” Belgrade, 2013. She has received numerous individual and collective awards.

  • Award for Best Radio Program for the show “Soul of the Balkans,” Varna, Bulgaria, 2008.
  • Special Jury Award for Best Play and Best Ensemble Performance for Monika Miteva and Jelena Đorđević in the play “Carlson and Malisa,” East Sarajevo, 2012.
  • Award for Animation for the play “Beauty and the Beast,” directed by Zoran Lozančić, Belgrade, 2013.
  • Award for Artistic Achievement, Niš Puppet Theater, 2013.
  • Special Award for multiple episodic roles in the play “Thumbelina,” Gračanica, 2021.

She has worked with many interesting people from both her country and abroad, including: He Xiaoxing, director and head of the puppet theater from Shanghai; Jarosław Antoniuk, director and head of the Polish puppet theater from Łomża; Vitomir Mitrić, director from East Sarajevo; Todor Nikolov, poet, playwright, and actor; Ljubomir Neikov, actor, director, and producer from Sofia.
