A clichéd summary of all fairy tales – finding a bridegroom for a spoiled princess, an ugly giant threatening the kingdom – is here transformed and elevated through authentic poetry, a wealth of forgotten beautiful words, and a host of newly coined expressions.

Emperor Prtprtptislav VI is challenged to a duel by a terrible giant with a flower in his teeth, who threatens to destroy the empire. The timid yet shrewd emperor promises the one who defeats this creature the throne and the hand of his beautiful daughter. But alas, the emperor does not reward Mitar the Singer, the brave farmer who defeats the giant; instead, he throws him into the dungeon. The emperor then fulfils his favourite daughter’s wish and gives her hand to the young and handsome Jovan, who flees on his white horse Bjelac after the unequal clash. Mitar the Singer receives neither the throne nor the princess – only the hope that a poet will preserve his feat and success from oblivion.

Explosively witty dialogues, dynamic staging, and original music rich with ethno-rock rhythms, combined with imaginative costumes and scenography, bring this theatrical fairy tale vividly to life.
